First check to see if the drive is compatible with OS X and with the version of OS X (10.5.8) that you are running.

By the way, IOS is for IOS devices which are iPads, iPhones and iPods. Macs use OS X.

You will need to get an LG, OWC or Samsung External USB DVD Drive, because the Apple USB SuperDrive is not compatible with any iMac that is older than a Late 2012.
